Gripes with Blue Pipes

I was looking around the internet for some technical information (repair and maintenance) when I ran into the following excellent diary. The author (Chris Coleman) does a great job in providing insight on his experience with his own (older model) Bonneville.

Some of his findings still rings true with the 2007 Bonneville. More specifically, the bluing of the pipe headers. My headers are pretty bad (as you can see from this image). I can still see the fingerprints where the technicians were holding the pipes (Thanks Triumph of NYC for not polishing before running the engine). Bluing of the pipes is caused by the high heat generated by the exhaust.

Chris provides some tips including a recommendation of changing to double-walled pipes. He mentioned Bubs Enterprises...I went to their website but was not impressed by the look of the pipes...I really liked the Bonnie's stock straight machinegun look. You would also have to rejet the carburetors. There are other alternatives. I read that Staintune pipes are also great alternative to the stock pipes. They have the same machinegun look and from what I read has a great sound too. I also read at TriumpRat.net that there's no need to rejet. One thing that Bub's have going for it is the price...its about half that of Staintune (which by the way is an import from Australia).

I read in BritBike.com that a product called Blue Job might do the trick. Maybe I will try that before getting new pipes.
