D and D Megaphones

My D and D slip-ons arrived this past Friday from NewBonneville.com. I was excited to open the package of course, but was disappointed when I saw the parts that came with it was scattered in the box. I was able to find everything but one of the pilot jets. Upon my third look, I found the jet under one of the folds of the shipping box. Whew' I thought this project was going to have a rough start.

Today, I removed the pipes from its bubble packaging. All I can say is WOW! My current $150 Emgo does not come close to D and D's construction. The chrome looks incredible! The whole thing just feels solid. This is one great example of American workmanship.

I was planning to have my mechanic perform the jet replacement thinking that the the carbs need retuning. Also, I was planing to have him replace the gasket on my cam covers. But since the instructions did not imply it needs one, I decided to do the rejetting myself (I might also venture into replacing the cam covers gasket too). In the coming days, I will chronicle my progress. Living in the city and not having a garage possess a challenge in doing this type of work out on the street.

There are Bonneville specific instructions which are pretty straightfoward. I will put together something more comprehensive with the help of my Bonnie Haynes manual and Triumph service manual.

It also comes with general installation instructions. These instructions are not designed for someone who has never taken apart their bike, so make sure you have other resources on hand such as a Haynes manual or go on over to TriumpRat.net to get some pointers.

And now for the goodies....The pipes and other parts came in a well packed box.

The pipes are separately packed in bubble wrap.

And finally, the rest of the parts. There are no diagrams or labels that came with these parts. These photos and caption are here to help others easily identify them. I will point these parts out while chronocling the work.
