I went out Tuesday morning too check out the damages Hurricane Sandy has brought in the part of Astoria where I live. With last night's gale force winds (100 MPH winds were reported last night on the Triboro bridge which is right next to Astoria Park), I suspected a lot of damage. But what I found was worst than I imagined. In the small radius of area that I covered, there were more than a handful of very large trees that came down. In a couple of cases, trees fell unto cars and homes. The photos of the uprooted trees clearly shows how devastating the winds were last night. It's evident from the news that this was an extraordinary disaster. This storm was definitely the worst I have seen.
The damage in my neighborhood however does not compare to the scores of homes that have burnt down overnight and made people homeless. Uprooted trees does not compare to the floods that have uprooted families from their homes. And a lost of a car does not even compare to a lost of a love one. My thoughts go out to everyone who are directly affected by Sandy's devastation.
