Mastery Knows No Shortcut

That is the mantra of the new craft brewery opening in Astoria in the very near future.

SINGLECUT BEERSMITHS is the brainchild of Rich Buceta. Rich was kind enough to give a tour to some lucky individuals on what has been happening at 19-33 37th Street in Astoria. He described with an impassioned tone the what, where, how, and why of opening a brewery. In short, it's not easy in New York City. Finding a proper zoned location was challenging. Then there's the red tape of actually getting a permit to actually brew.

When you first step into the brewery, you'll find yourself in the tap room. There is a bar where you can get a fresh brew or fill up your growler to go. One and two liter growlers will be available directly. Rich also explains that a big part of the brewery is music. The name Singlecut comes from a term to describe a type of guitar. "Old school records" as Rich puts it will be played in the tap room. There is also a plan for a stage where a band can perform on. He plans on having maybe two or three events per year. Perhaps it's not a coincident that Rich chose a location just down the block from the legendary Steinway & Sons piano factory, where pianos are hand-built by artisans.

As you walk further inside, you can't miss the huge refrigerator which will keep scores of kegs filled with fresh brew.

The unfinished brewing room looked impressive with the massive tanks that were recently delivered and staged.

These photos are for the beer techies out there. You know who you are!

Rich saved the pièce de résistance at the end of the tour by giving away (you read that right), giving away samples of SingleCut brews. I've been lucky enough to sample a few variety. All I can say is, I can't wait to drink more!

This is an exciting time for Astorians. On the other side of town is Beyond Kombucha brewing their healthy concoctions of fermented tea. And now, the Ditmars area can claim their own handcraft brewer with SingleCut Beersmiths.
